You get bogged down by corporate and management with the "flavor of the week." Every week there is a product or new presentation (with all the same old information, just spun differently) that they want you to focus on rehashing to your CPAs or current clients. You have to put your own plan in place and stick to it. You are stuck telling management what they want to hear and what they want to see within the CRM tool. Using the phones is much more effective and a better use of time than driving throughout your territory each day going on in person calls.

For most day-to-day operation-related positions, the wages/salaries aren't enough for people to care to put a ton of thought into what they are doing. In fact, the general culture and expectations are not proportional to compensation. Departments create work for other departments; realignment within departments is common but not very effective.
