Pros

Good compensation overall (salary + vales + savings fund + vacations), a nice new office to work from, and a flexible WFH policy. Catered breakfast and lunch. Drinks and beer. Some nice people over there.

Cons

Compensation is not fair sometimes. Salary adjustments are very rare and usually, they prefer to give money just for retention, instead of doing it as a reward of good performance. Gossip, mainly related to people quitting the company/fired employees. Also some public harassment cases from people that now is moving from manager to upper positions. Boring projects, and for the challenging/fun ones, there is a lack of expertise from Wizeline (engineering, sales and project management). People do not know how to propose solutions, design them, or execute them. Some engineers that are not good at all are performing roles in senior positions. Lack of real seniority in the team. You need to play smart, and do very visible things for your manager. It is better if you brag about the little things you do to get some visibility. There is no long term planning in terms of employee careers. Promotions are usually not based on facts, but to time in the company or just because people think they can do it even if they are not qualified for that. Product teams are a joke. They haven't built something useful since the company was founded.

A lair of Nepotism

Pros

Just few benefits above the law, nothing more. Now with the new labor law approved by Mexican congress, their vacation benefits are just bare minimum according to this law. Used to have good pay, not anymore as compared to other companies now.

Cons

During my tenure there I could see how the Wizeline culture died day by day, due to nepotism that spread like wild fire in recent years. There were many hires in top positions that didn't share the values of the companies and imposed their bad practices, like an Indian guy they hired as CFO, which also hired several of his Indian pals to other top positions in Finance department, many with no idea what to do or how to handle the kind of business Wizeline was, and at the end that Indian CFO left the company and left his Indian pals there with the same bad management practices. Some other hires like COO/Delivery coming from HP, she hired as well several of her pals from HP in also top positions for Operations and Delivery teams, and wreak havoc to the culture of the company, as those people also hired their pals as well, with a very lousy performance, which at the end were fired but the persons that hired them in the first place are still in the Executive team with no consequences to them. Delivery teams like Project Management leadership has also nepotism practices and are putting their friends from outside the company in positions of leadership, disregarding the internal talent that has years in the company and deserved those leadership roles better, being ignored. All this while the CEO ignores (or he knows but doesn't care) the destruction of his company's culture which has been rotten from within. Now, the CEO has decided out of the blue to end Home Office and mandated everyone to the be in the office 3 days by week, (even sending a FAQ letter saying explicitly "mandatory") but after the huge backlash from employees and social media, he now is saying "oh, you misunderstood me, it was more as a guideline rather than mandatory". Right, if that were the case, you wouldn't have sent the word "MANDATORY" in your first company-wide communication in the first place. Ever since the acquire of Wizeline by CDPQ (a Canadian company) , Wizeline only cares for profit now with the board and the internal CBO putting very unrealistic goals each quarter, pushing people beyond the reality of the market. So if you're coming to join Sales team, think twice as you'll be whip-lashed HARD to reach those unrealistic numbers. And if you come as Developer, be sure to come to an ensured customer project because if you fall in the bench, 2 weeks without work and you're fired. Also, fired people don't get any notice, they just disconnect their Slack account and all access to company's accounts and apps and they're fired from one day to the next. No, there's no warning, no PIP plan they need to follow, nothing. Just fired the same day, no notice, that's it, which is highly unethical and lack of empty to the employee. Overall, Wizeline used to be a nice place to work, now is a lair of nepotism and has lose all their "Silicon Valley" mojo, being one now just another one of those other latin american consultancies with the same bad management and practices.

Pros

You can learn and switch tech stack fast

Cons

Ever since CDPQ acquired the majority of the stake of Wizeline the company turned into another consulting company looking for profit instead of the wellness of their employee. - Micro Management and Bad Managers: Some managers are absolutely not prepared to handle the Wizeline culture (mostly on the natural drive account). - Multiple Layoffs: Layoffs were not handled correctly (they just disconnected the account of their employee without a notice period or even a warning) they were hidden and not clearly communicated with fired and not fired employees. At the moment you stop giving profit to the company you become a target of the next layoff (two weeks on the bench and you get fired). - Remote Working is in the process to get removed. During the pandemic, Wizeline went 100% online. In may 2022 they launched a prototype for returning optionally to the office they claimed we would always have the chance to work remotely if we wanted to. today Dec 15th they announced we will have to attend 3 day spers week minimum without an strict check in but still if you want to not attend the office you have to ask for the permission with your manager (where is the flexibility on that). this only applies for people living in GDL and CDMX metropolitan areas but some people even do 2-4 hours of commuting and still they will be required to go to the office. Also those who got a monitor and a chair from the office have to return it to the office which is bad if you still want to work from home a couple of days. - Food: Before the pandemic the food at the office was one of the coolest things ever. Breakfast, Lunch and dinner was served and it was delicous offering light, regular, vegetarian and vegan options. It was buffet like style. Now they removed breakfast and dinner and the lunch will cost 25 pesos. The amount of food will be measured by the catering service and you wont be able to request for more. - Poor benefits: Most companies offer unlimited pto while Wizeline is only offering 12 days of vacations + 3 floating days (in mexico that will be the minimum next year thanks to the new working labour laws), there is no visible stock options and there are no bonuses for performance. There is no gym/wellness allowance or bonus. There is no coworking budget for those who work remotely in cities where there is no office. The end of the year event was miserable for a company that does billons of profit per year. They did not allow us to invite +1. They raffled 10 gifts for 500+ persons in gdl 5 for 200+ in CDMX and 10 for 800+ online persons (less than 2% of the employees won someting). - Salaries are not competitive: Before pandemic wizeline was above the average on salaries, nowdays even startups are paying more. Software Engineer L1: starting from 32K montly before taxes. Software Engineer L2: starting from 40K montly before taxes. Software Engineer L3: starting from 50K montly before taxes. While other companies like Etsy and Lyft are paying for L3 80 and 90k just for you to get an idea. Raises of salary and/or level are super hard to get and you need to wait months before the resolution is done. I was invited to evaluate a coworker (since I was a leader) and I realize that human resources was strongly looking for excuses not to give the raise to that engineer. Even if you get approved the raise of level or salary, the difference will be minimum, even 700 pesos per month for a raise of salary which is definitely unacceptable. Consider all of this before joining the company.
