Pros

Basic healthcare coverage for full-time employees. Remote.

Cons

For all the terminologies and vocabularies to be learned in 6 weeks to do the job, the salary is way too low. Training materials are voluminous and do not include the target language of the terminologies we have to memorize. The trainer is not a native English speaker. Her accent is difficult to understand and she sometimes mispronounces words. Instructions are confusing. English and the target language are expected to be very well understood to do this. Fast note-taking is EXTREMELY essential.

Pros

They offer decent benefits: 401K match, PTO, sick time, etc. There is also the satisfaction of knowing what you do improves people's lives.

Cons

I have been an interpreter here for over 3 years and have yet to receive a raise. You have little motivation to perform to the best on your ability because compensation is not performance based, nor are there any incentives. When I asked for a wage increase, I was told that all interpreters are paid the same, and wages match other companies compensation. In the time I've worked here minimum wage has risen from $11 to $15/hour and my wages have stayed the same. It gives interpreters no reason to stay. Why would I get paid the same amount as someone who has no skills and works at Chick-fil-A? It's a joke that interpreters, as important as they want us to feel, get compensated the same as high school fast food workers!

Do not work here

Pros

You are able to work from home.

Cons

Some of the calls are from 911, prison or hospitals and you will listen very unsettling stuff, they expect you to translate everything, hang up the phone afterwards and 5 seconds later, answer the next call. There was no mental health support offered after I had to translate the call of a rape victim, an interview from prison for a child abuser, and a 911 report from a mother who called afraid that her husband might kill her while you heard loud noises on the bockground and the children screaming terrified.. Worst comoany I have ever worked for.
