Pros

Most of the fellow employees are great people.

Cons

Corporate gives us sick days, but gives verbal and written reprimands if you take it; even with a doctors excuse. Breaking this rule can end in firing. The same goes for personal days. Request must be submitted far in advance and then OK'd by management. So much for "personal". Short of a funeral for immediate family, you won't get off. The dress code is from hell. We used to wear comfortable jeans with blue shirts. Now it is uncomfortable, hot clothing with belts and aprons. Store managers are caught in the middle; forced to implement unfair policies and create stress in the workplace, or ignore corporate and do what is right making the workplace much more bearable but incurring the wrath of higher ups.

Pros

employee discount, free life insurance policy, and due to incredibly high turnover, availability of overtime for "cross-trained" employees.

Cons

catty coworkers, micromanagement, no pay increases ever, the corporate spokesperson begun our orientation by saying "you are very lucky to work for us", they hire disabled people to perform simple jobs at the same pay everybody else receives, and expects you to pick up their slack, and most of all, they claim to be such a charitable company but they sell FILTHY, raunchy, torn and tattered textiles overseas for a very high profit. i cannot believe that a company surviving solely off of donated goods and tax cuts for helping the disabled and poor cannot afford to pay anymore than minimum wage to their most dedicated employees.

Pros

The environment is great. It is a macro management organization. The organization is financially secure. The Senior Leadership Team empower the staff and push impact instead of numbers. The organization is financially diverse. The programs it provides are actually making a difference. It seems like one big family rather than a gossip arena.

Cons

They do not provide retirement. Because it is a non-profit the pay is below the for profit world and the resources available to the staff to service the clients can be limited. As government grants and funding dissipate, programs can be eliminated and staff laid off. The board is a non contributing board which hampers the ability to receive funds from foundations and other resources.
