Pros

Getting a job there is easy, which one expects of Goodwill, which acts as an employer of last resort, and the store management is friendly, concerned, understanding, and competent. Hours OK for a part-time employer, giving you the max number of hours while still keeping you part time, and store management will help make your schedule work for you. Overall, Goodwill is a good way to get your foot in the door if you're having trouble gaining practical work experience, but isn't good for much else...

Cons

They are no longer taking employees full-time, period, regardless of what they tell you. Career advancement takes ages, especially as a part-timer. There's no sense of professionalism among the clerks, and because they are loathe to fire anyone (turn-over is atrocious), you may very well end up having to deal with loathsome co-workers for your entire stint there. Upper management is the real problem though. The quota system they use to measure productivity creates perverse incentives that make the store run worse, not better, creating overflowing, messy shelves and clothing racks and discouraging proper organization. They sell culturally appropriative costumes during the Halloween season, segregate toys by gender, and otherwise only pay lip-service to social responsibility. They don't seem to grasp basic business principles and refuse to listen to complaints and suggestions brought forth by clerks and store management.

Pros

The company has good morals and values their employees. Coworkers are friendly and seem happy to be there. Management is approachable and understanding. Both the employees and customers are extremely diverse; you get to see people from all walks of life here. Their mission--to put people to work--is clearly very successful.

Cons

The pay is very low and there are hardly any benefits, especially if you're a part-time employee. It's often understaffed. You're expected to do a lot for not a lot of compensation. In addition, you AND your family and friends are not allowed to shop at the store you work at. There's also not much opportunity for advancement.
