Pros

My particular store is full of amazing people, and the working environment is quite close. They also have programs that allow you to help people with things like free medical equipment, clothing, and job and resume help for those in need.

Cons

This company is much less disability friendly than it touts itself to be. Much of our staff including me is disabled in one way or another and I frequently see staff pushed knowingly beyond their limits by management. Disability accommodations are often difficult to obtain. I was recently asked to remove an accommodation that a coworker had the necessary paperwork for, because the paperwork had not yet been approved by HR. Our goals raise quite frequently but the pay raises very rarely and for associates, is lower than the pay of any fast food restaurant near me at $11. As a result, we have a low retention rate and are constantly understaffed. I just don’t believe the pay for this job is proportional to the extremely high expectations.

Pros

Goodwill has been exceptionally good to me. I love my management and my employees. The pay is higher than most in equivalent positions elsewhere in my area and in the country. The benefits are competitive but in addition to that Goodwill offers its employees many ways to improve oneself through offering classes that you get paid for while attending among many other opportunities to grow as a person and an employee whether with Goodwill or somewhere else. They really encourage us to be the best people we can be and have been tremendously patient and supportive of me and all the other employees when it comes to accommodating for whatever unique challenges we may be facing on or off the job. Frankly, when I read some of the negative reviews I am completely shocked. Those folks leaving those reviews are the ones who don’t care to explore what Goodwill can offer them and are the type that have no interest in self growth or advancement, at least that how it looks to me because I have had nothing but positive experiences working here and will stay with the company as long as they will keep me. Are they perfect? Who is? But they are excellent in many ways and I wear my employment with them proudly. I am grateful for the opportunities I am given and the self improvement they pay me to pursue!

Cons

Being understaffed at times creates challenges at times but we always overcome and move forward. Upper management understands the issue and works hard to support us through the deficits and works to fulfill and offset them.
