Pros

The company has a family feel to it. Everyone is VERY friendly and willing to talk, help, and just be a great teammate. Promotes mainly from within. For a non-profit the pay is very good (althow for-profit still pays better). Immediate management is kind, team oriented, willing to help train you and help you advance int the company. And more often then not your intimidate manager did your job at one point so they know very well how difficult your job is and is willing to help as needed.

Cons

Not a heck of a lot of management positions, so promotions beyond a supervisor level are rare and in high demand. But the biggest downside is that the Directors and VPs are more pencil pushers not social workers. Each came from accounting or business backgrounds rather then rise from the ranks of the non-profit workers they command. They seem to have little concept of what its like on the front lines. They tend to make strategy plans that sound great on paper but are completely impractical in real life. The result is department are handed a plan of action and when the plan fails its the departments fault. No thought is ever given that the plan could have been at fault... But i suppose this is true of most corporate environments.

Pros

Helping those in need of training, job coaching and work experience through the local programs, such as 'welfare to work' . Knowing that what we sell is reaching those whom could not afford that expensive 'thing' otherwise. To have the privilege to help and work in my own community, knowing that a large percentage of our small revenue stays in my community. To work for such a world renown entity, regardless of the miss-management of our region in the past and present. Goodwill's Mission is worth supporting and I am continually encouraged to keep trying because of it.

Cons

Poor salary, not even comparable to other eastern Goodwill's. No promotions, or raises, or incentives. No learning programs No clear rolls of the command, nor clear policy . No incentives for my personnel Little or no support from main office, and certainly no emotional incentive to work harder,. working harder gets you only your self congratulations. little or no marketing budget little or no budget for store improvement

Pros

Goodwill will hire literally anyone. As a recent immigrant I had no GED or qualifications at the time and was still easily able to get hired...along with several people who could not speak English and a couple recently released from prison. Supervisors are easy to work with. Work is fairly easy, if repetitive.

Cons

Obvious problems/issues ignored by senior management Little communication between workers and management Unfair pay, new hires may be making more money than experienced workers. For example forklift operators were hired at $1.50 more per hour than existing and more capable ones. Raises are supposed to be given every year, although this is rarely adhered to. Management make no effort to keep good employees, and don't care how many people they retain/hire which means much of the workforce at any one time is inexperienced or simply not very good at their jobs. Favoritism shown by management, some workers will consistently be given worst jobs. Drivers rarely do much work other than driving. (They are meant to do other work when no runs are available) Pay is fairly poor. No distinction between skilled and non skilled workers. Eg Forklift/Machine operators paid the same as store staff. Upper management regularly impose seemingly worthless rules and initiatives while ignoring corporate policies.
